Elisa is the owner and operator of Lighthouse Occupational Therapy. She chose the Occupational Therapy path after her high school guidance counsellor introduced her to the profession. Elisa knew immediately that it was the right fit! After completing her degree at the University of Western Ontario, Elisa took her first job with a school district in the United States. She had the opportunity to work with individuals with a variety of abilities and challenges, and quickly learned how valuable all members of the team were – and that everyone could teach you something new.
After making the decision to move back to Ontario, she spent the next 10 years in the school age/adolescent program at Thames Valley Children’s Centre in London. Again, Elisa was able to learn from each client, and each member of the large, multi-disciplinary team. She enjoyed the opportunity to help clients achieve their full potential by helping them access the amazing array of services that Thames Valley Children’s Centre had to offer, including: the seating and mobility clinic, the augmentative communication team, therapeutic recreation, gait lab, splinting clinic, and more!
Following the birth of her 4th child – and moving – Elisa worked at a private therapy clinic in Barrie, Ontario. This position gave Elisa the opportunity to move away from the consultative model that had become so prevalent in publicly funded services, and provide direct service to clients once again. She was also able to learn about the evolving and valuable role that private Occupational Therapy is playing in the community.
Elisa’s career has provided her with the opportunity to work across the age span, from infants through adulthood, and with clients who have a wide variety of needs and diagnoses. She feels strongly that the right therapy begins with identifying what matters to the client, and by using an eclectic approach to treatment.
The decision to venture out and establish her own Occupational Therapy practice, was driven by Elisa's feeling that there was a need within Simcoe County (and beyond!) for greater access to Occupational Therapy services – for both children and adults.
Her company name: Lighthouse Occupational Therapy was chosen because Elisa's goal is to focus on one thing: "To help your best self shine!"
